LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sunday, May 24, 2020) – Owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey won their unprecedented 500th career race at Churchill Downs on Sunday when 5-year-old gelding Spanned prevailed in the third race.

The Ramseys, multiple Eclipse Award winners who race their horses in the familiar white and red silks branded with an “R,” are the all-time leading owners at Churchill Downs with Overbrook Farm a distant second with 206 victories. The Nicholasville, Ky. couple has won a record 32 owners’ titles at the historic Louisville racetrack: 13 Spring Meet championships, 15 Fall Meet championships and four September Meet championships.

“We’ve won a lot of races for the Ramseys over the years,” trainer Mike Maker said. “It was special to get win No. 500 for them.”

The husband-wife duo could not be in attendance Sunday due to the COVID-19 restrictions at Churchill Downs. Some of their top horses that have won beneath the Twin Spires include their prized stallion Kitten’s Joy, 2006 Mrs. Revere (GII) winner Precious Kitten, 2009 Churchill Downs Stakes (GII) hero Accredit and 2013 Churchill Downs Distaff Turf Mile (GII) winner Stephanie’s Kitten.
