Tiz the Law was made the 3-5 morning-line favorite year’s Kentucky Derby on Sept. 5 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. With this derby being run four months later than usual none of these 3-year-old’s are “babies”, they are mature colts. And Tiz the Law is the most mature by far.
The son of Constitution has run farther than any of the others and did it in a good time. He ran the mile-and-a-quarter in the Travers in 2:00.95 and he was under wraps at the end of the race.
Art Collector was the only colt that I thought had a chance to beat Tiz the Law, but he was not entered because of a minor foot issue.
Honor A.P. (Honor Code, 5-1) and Authentic (Into Mischief, 8-1) are the only other colts that are single-digit odds on the morning line. Honor A.P. supposedly has 10 furlongs stamped all over him and he takes awhile to get going, but I think Tiz the Law will be long gone by the time he gets in gear.
I’m not going to handicap the rest of the field because I don’t see any other colt that’s worth it. The rest are too slow, but if you want to take a stab at a long-shot that’s what gambling is all about.
