Friday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed at $1.25 Million

Mandatory Rainbow 6 Payout Scheduled for Saturday

Shadwell Stable’s Arham Sparkles in Thursday Debut

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $1.25 million Friday at Gulfstream Park.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 12th day of the Championship Meet Wednesday, when multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $1,353.08.

A mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is scheduled for Saturday’s program, headlined by the $100,000 Mr. Prospector (G3), in which multiple graded-stakes winners Firenze Fire, Mind Control and Diamond Oops will clash, and the $100,000 Via Borghese.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is usually only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. However, on mandatory-payout days, the entire pool is paid out to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the six-race sequence.

Friday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 5-10, including a mile maiden special weight race for 3-year-olds and up in Race 7, in which Gary and Mary West’s Emperor Of the Nile, a $400,000 son of Pioneer of the Nile, is scheduled make his debut.

Shadwell Stable’s Arham Sparkles in Thursday Debut

Shadwell Stable’s Arham ($3.40) sparkled in his career debut at Gulfstream Park Thursday, scoring by seven lengths following a thoroughly professional performance under Luis Saez.

The homebred 3-year-old son of Union Rags broke cleanly to chase pacesetter Catch On Emotional, the 7-5 second betting choice ridden by Paco Lopez, along the backstretch. The Kentucky-bred colt pulled alongside the pacesetter on turn before taking over leaving the turn into the homestretch and drawing clear with minimal urging.

Arham ran six furlongs in 1:10.13.

“It was very professional. He broke well and put himself into a good spot and improved the whole way. Luis rode him kind of quietly to the wire,” trainer Todd Pletcher said. “What’s exciting about it is I think he’s a horse that that will really appreciate more distance going forward – to win like that going six.”

Arham’s second dam is Spun Sugar, whom Pletcher saddled for Grade 1 victories in the Apple Blossom and Go For Wand in 2006.

Arham joined Pletcher’s stable at Palm Beach Downs about two months ago.

“He was at my dad’s [J.J. Pletcher’s] training center for a while and then came to us. He’s been training very professionally. We were expecting a good debut,” Pletcher said.

WHO’S HOT: Jockey Edgard Zayas won both ends of the early double aboard Pretty Rachel ($4.40) in Race 1 and Words of Devine ($6.40) in Race 2.

Trainer Juan Carlos Avila saddled a pair of winners, scoring with Pretty Rachel ($4.40) in Race 1 and Princess Coro ($4.20) in Race 3.
