Jesus’ Team to Sit Out 90 Days with Ankle Chip
Zayas Headed to Parx for The Smarty Jones (G3)
Friday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed at $450,000
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Grupo 7C Stable’s multiple Grade 1 stakes-placed Jesus’ Team, second to Knicks Go in January in the Pegasus World Cup (G1), will be out of training for 90 days due to a chip in his left front ankle.
The son of Tapiture, second in the 2020 Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) and third in last year’s Preakness (G1) and Jim Dandy (G2), will sit out the next 90 days while recuperating at WinStar Farm, according to trainer Jose D’Angelo.
“Everything is good with him. It really wasn’t a big deal, but we always want to do the right thing,” D’Angelo said. “He will rest at WinStar for 90 days, they will walk and swim him, and then he’ll come right back.”
Jesus’ Team, who started his career in a $25,000 claimer, has finished first, second or third in 11 of 17 starts and has earned $821,800. After finishing second in the Pegasus, Jesus’ Team was sixth in the Dubai World Cup and fifth in an overnight handicap at Gulfstream before finishing eighth Aug. 6 at Saratoga in the Alydar Stakes.
Zayas Headed to Parx for The Smarty Jones (G3)
Edgard Zayas, who leads the Gulfstream jockey colony in wins and purse earnings, will head to Parx this week to ride Arindel homebred Alonzo in Tuesday’s $300,000 The Smarty Jones (G3).
The 1 1/16 mile The Smarty Jones, the 11th race on the program, drew a field of nine including Juddmonte’s Matt Winn (G3) and Indiana Derby (G3) third-place finisher Fulsome and Dwyer (G3) runner-up Ridin With Biden.
Alonzo, a 3-year-old son of Brethren, has won two of four starts at Gulfstream with a second and a third.
Friday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed at $450,000
The 20-cent Rainbow 6 Jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $450,000 when live racing resumes Friday at Gulfstream Park.
The popular multi-race wager went unsolved Sunday for the 13th consecutive racing day since a July 31 mandatory payout.
The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover in the first race Friday of $4,949.82.
