Friday Breeders’ Cup Stakes Selections, Pick-5 Plays

DEL MAR
Race 6 BC Juvenile Turf Sprint
Twilight Gleaming (6): Makes her first run in the states since last May coming off a narrow victory at Deauville for Ward. Ward excels of the 61-180 day layoff. She looks fit and ready to rock
Averly Jane (8): Another filly vs. the boys for Ward, she made her turf debut in her last race at Keeneland demolishing a similar field, she is the one to beat.
One Timer (9): Rivelli does very well in turf sprints, this one has done nothing wrong winning all three of his starts but this will be an acid test.
Twilight Jet (1): Will make first start in America for new connections which purchased him off a G3 victory in Newmarket, he has kept very good company overseas.
Race 7 BC Juvenile Fillies
Juju’s Map (5): Taking a small shot here to beat the heavy favorite Echo Zulu, this one has the two turn experience and the numbers aren’t far off from heavy favorite so we will take a stab.
Echo Zulu (6): If she can get the two turns she will be very difficult to beat at a short price.
Tarabi (4): Only loss came when being defeated to the favorite in this race, the stretch out should help this one.
Race 8 Juvenile Fillies Turf
Kola Princess (9): Comes in off back to back dominating efforts and retains the services of top jockey, Joel Rosario. Should be able to sit a dream stalking trip with all of the speed drawn to her inside.
Haughty (11): She is coming off an impressive maiden victory after being disqualified from her first win, Chad Brown has won this race numerous times and would not be running here if she wasn’t ready for the rise in class.
Turnerloose (4): She ran a huge race to lose in the Jessamine by a neck on a turf course that tends to play to closers. She tried to make all the running, this track will be more to her liking.
Mise En Scene (13): Looks to be the best of the Euros in this spot coming off her first loss in a G1 at Newmarket.
Race 9 Breeders Cup Juvenile
Corniche (12): Comes in undefeated with two wins including a dominating effort at two turns but what drew me to him here is that he has a win over the surface which he is the only one in the field that can say that.
Jack Christopher (1): Looks to be a super talented runner for Chad Brown and the one to beat from the East Coast he will have to be special to win from the 1 hole taking pressure the whole way and holding off the closers.
Oviatt Class (3): The brothers Desormeaux hook up here and they will be the beneficiary if all the speed goes out and sets it up for a closer.
Barossa (8): Coming off a maiden score for Bob Baffert in his third effort, he fits on numbers with the top two favorites and we will get a much better price.
Race 10 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf
Modern Games (1): He is far and away the one to beat in this spot for Appleby who is firing at an insane 43% in the states this year with 16 runners. He has only run one poor race in his first start, he should get coverage from the inside post and kick clear when they turn for home.
Dubawi Legend (14): Looks to be the second best of the Euros will have to navigate a trip from the 14 hole.
Portfolio Company (10): Coming in off a narrow defeat for Chad Brown vs a horse Annapolis who unfortunately was sidelined after that win. This is the American runner I want here.
Albhar (2): The “other” Appleby runner in the race coming in off a stateside victory and is 4/5 in his career only losing his first start but facing far less competition then the other two Europeans.
