Friday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $325,000
Desormeaux Named to Ride Two in Rainbow 6 Sequence
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $325,000 Friday at Gulfstream Park.
The Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9, featuring a 1 1/16-mile optional claiming allowance for Florida-bred fillies and mares on turf in Race 7, in which Hall of Fame jockey Kent Desormeaux is scheduled to ride Lady Cha Cha, the 2-1 morning-line favorite. Lady Cha Cha is coming off a victory in open company in her first start off the claim by Laura Cazares, who also named Desormeaux on Llamarada in Race 5.
Jockey agent Jose Santos Jr. reports that the 54-year-old winner of 6170 winners is exploring the possibility of riding at Gulfstream Park for the summer months. He is scheduled to ride one horse on Saturday’s program before returning to Southern California to make a decision.
Based in Southern California for most of his career, Desormeaux has made the most of his opportunities at Gulfstream Park, most notably winning aboard Big Brown in the 2008 Florida Derby (G1). He and Big Brown went on to win the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1).
In 2008, Desormeaux won the Fountain of Youth (G2) aboard Cool Coal Man in addition to capturing the Swale (G3) with Eaton’s Gift and Suwanee River (G3) on La Dolce Vita. He hasn’t ridden at Gulfstream since 2014.
The Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
