Rainbow 6 Mandatory Payout Set for Sunday
Estimated Jackpot Pool Could Reach $3 Million
Sequence Includes 3 on Turf, Maiden Special Weight
Autumn Evening Spoils Dazzling Blue’s Comeback in Thursday Feature
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – There will be a mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 at Gulfstream Park Sunday, Jan. 5. If there is no unique winner of the wager through Saturday, the estimated pool of Sunday’s mandatory payout is $3 million.
Sunday’s sequence will begin with Race 5, a $94,000 maiden special weight event for 3-year-old fillies at a mile on the turf. Post time is approximately 2:14 ET for the Rainbow 6. The dozen entered include Just Silvia (trainer Todd Pletcher), Sol d’Oro (Christophe Clement), Tellus Mater (Graham Motion), In the Wild (Shug McGaughey), Crystalaire (George Weaver), Sweet Surrender (Bill Mott), Close Up (Cherie DeVaux), and Cocktail Kisses and Goal, both from the barn of Mark Casse.
The sequence concludes with Race 10, another $94,000 turf event for maiden fillies and mares at a mile. Just So Pretty was beaten a head and two lengths in maiden special weight events on the turf at Saratoga and Aqueduct. El Zain is a $700,000 4-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro making her debut.
Sunday’s first race post is 12:20 ET.
On mandatory payout days, the entire Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is paid out to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the wager’s six-race sequence. The carryover jackpot is usually only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
The Rainbow 6 will have an estimated pool of $400,000 for Friday’s nine-race program.
Autumn Evening Spoils Dazzling Blue’s Comeback in Thursday Feature
P & G Stables’ Autumn Evening came with a steady run through the stretch down the center of the racetrack to catch comebacking favorite Dazzling Blue and win by a head in Thursday’s optional claiming allowance feature at Gulfstream Park.
Autumn Evening ($8) won for the second time in four starts since joining trainer Todd Pletcher’s string last August, both victories coming with fellow Hall of Famer John Velazquez aboard.
Drifaros took the early initiative from her rail post in the third-level spot for fillies and mares 4 and up and set fractions of 22.74 and 45.68 seconds pressed by Dazzling Blue, the four-time graded-stakes placed mare racing for the first time since mid-June. Velazquez kept Autumn Evening in the clear on the far outside and set her down for a drive once straightened for home, completing six furlongs in 1:10.23 over a fast main track.
“She kept digging in,” Pletcher said. “Johnny knows her a little bit now after riding her a couple of times, and she kind of needs an aggressive ride. He got her attention leaving there and put her in a good spot, and he just had to keep busy on her.”
Autumn Evening now owns four wins from eight starts and is also stakes-placed, having run third in the six-furlong Garland of Roses Dec. 8 at Aqueduct to close her 3-year-old campaign.
“We picked her up last summer and she’s run well every time for us,” Pletcher said. “We’ll see how she bounces out of this and maybe try another stake down the road.”
Autumn Evening was the second straight win on the card for Pletcher, who also captured a maiden special weight for older fillies and mares with Shadwell Stable’s El Megeeth ($8.60) in Race 7 going 1 3/16 miles on the all-weather Tapeta. The 4-year-old Constitution filly had two thirds in six previous races.
“It seems like the older she gets the more mature she’s getting, and the further she goes the better she gets,” Pletcher said. “I was happy to see a race like that offered at a mile and three-sixteenths. She handled it well and galloped out like she might want to go further.”
Who’s Hot: Jockey Miguel Vasquez won twice Thursday with Mywifeknowsitall ($6.60) in Race 2 and Win With Faith ($23.20) in Race 5 … Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher notched back-to-back wins with El Megeeth ($8.60) in Race 7 and Autumn Evening ($8) in Race 8.
