Saturday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $275,000
G1 Winner Nakatomi Headlines Gulfstream Park Sprint
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved Friday for the fourth racing day following last Saturday’s mandatory payout that yielded multiple jackpot payoffs of $164,292.76.
The popular multi-race wager’s jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $275,000 Saturday, when first-race post time for a 12-race program is set for 12:50 p.m.
The $140,000 Gulfstream Park Sprint will kick off the Rainbow 6 sequence, which will span Race 7-12. Wesley Ward-trained Nakatomi is scheduled to make his first start since finishing sixth in the Nov. 2 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) at Del Mar. Rated at 6-5 on the morning line, the 6-year-old gelded millionaire captured the Alfred G. Vanderbilt (G1) at Saratoga last year. Nakatomi, who finished third in the Golden Shaheen (G1) last year will be prepping Saturday for a possible return to Dubai for the sprinting feature on the undercard of the April 5 Dubai World Cup (G1).
Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Comedy Town looms as a big threat. The 7-year-old gelded son of Speightstown has been a revelation since switching from turf and Tapeta to dirt five starts ago, winning two stakes at Gulfstream and finishing third at Keenland in the Phoenix (G3), win which he checked in just a half-length behind runner-up Nakatomi. Comedy Town, who will be ridden by Drayden Van Dyke, will be accompanied in the starting gate with Joseph stablemate Concrete Glory. The 6-year-old gelding steps up into stakes company after two dominating scores in start allowance and optional claiming allowance events. Edgard Zayas has the call.
Who’s Hot: Trainer Michael Yates and jockey Miguel Vasquez teamed for two trips to the Gulfstream Park’s winner’s circle Friday with first-time starter Wiffletree Serry ($18.40) om Race 3 and Themanupfront ($14.20) in Race 8.
