Friday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Estimated at $75,000

NY ‘Bug’ Elliott Makes Another Winning Trip to Gulfstream

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is expected to grow to an estimated $75,000 Friday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the first racing day following Sunday’s mandatory payout, which yielded multiple $31,481.78 payoffs.

Thursday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9, headlined by a mile optional claiming allowance for Florida-bred fillies and mares on turf in Race 6. Jose D’Angelo-trained Rachels Song is the 7-5 morning favorite in a field of seven assembled for Race 6.

In the Rainbow 6, the carryover pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

New York’s leading apprentice Christophe Elliott has ventured south again this week in a bid to win the Outstanding Apprentice Eclipse Award.

The 19-year-old son of Stewart Elliott, who rode Smarty Jones for victories in the 2004 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness (G1), rode a pair of winners at Gulfstream in his first foray into South Florida last week. Thursday, he visited the winner’s circle once from four mounts aboard Victor Barboza Jr.-trained High Prince ($4.60) following a hard-fought victory in Race 6.

Elliott has been named to ride is six of nine races Friday, including Race 1, in which he will kick off his afternoon aboard 7-5 morning-line favorite Princess Claudia.

Elliot has ridden 65 winners this year.

Jose Morales was the riding star of the day Thursday with three victories. He scored on Ihaveissues ($8.20) in Race 5, High Prince ($4.600) in Race 6 and Holy Moly Moses ($41.20) om Race 8.
