Starting gate filling up

TRINITY, Fla. – Iron Honor picked up 50 points and a place in the Kentucky Derby starting gate with a win in the Gotham at Aqueduct. Whether he’s good enough to be competitive in the “Run for the Roses” is another question.

Commandment punched his ticketed to the Derby by winning the Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream and it looks like distance won’t be a problem.

In Arkansas, Class President won a ding-dong battle with Silent Tactic in the Rebel Stakes and both have enough points to make the 152nd Derby on May 2.

I will list the horse, sire, most recent race it was in and the trainer.

Paladin (Gun Runner) won the Risen Star and has two mile-and-an-eighth races under his belt. Trainer Chad Brown.

Renegade (Into Mischief) won the Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay. Todd Pletcher.

Nearly (Not This Time) won the Holy Bull at Gulfstream. Todd Pletcher.

Commandment (Into Mischief) won the Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream. Brad Cox.

Class President (Uncle Mo) won Rebel at Oaklawn. Todd Pletcher.

Silent Tactic (Tacitus) was second in the Rebel. Mark Casse.

Chief Wallabee (Constitution) was second in the Fountain of Youth. Bill Mott.

Further Ado (Gun Runner) won the Kentucky Jockey Club at Churchill. Brad Cox.

Iron Honor (Nyquist) won the Gotham. Chad Brown.

Potente (Into Mischief) broke his maiden impressively at Santa Anita on first asking. Bob Baffert.
