National Leader Tyler Gaffalione Rides Four Winners
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved for the 23rd consecutive program at Gulfstream Park Monday, leaving a carryover jackpot of $513,873.44 for Thursday’s nine-race program.
Multiple tickets with all six winners Monday were each worth $3,715.88.
The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket sold, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
Thursday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9. The popular multi-race wager will be kicked off with a $50,000 maiden special weight event with a field of nine 2-year-olds in Race 4. Scrapper, a $600,000 purchase at the OBS March 2-year-olds-in-training sale, is scheduled to represent trainer Todd Pletcher’s stable. Tyler Gaffalione is slated to ride Sumaya US Stables’ debuting 2-year-old colt, who is by 2013 Florida Derby (G1) and Kentucky Derby (G1) champion Orb. Challenger Kingston Pike is set to return from a sharp debut, in which he set a pressured pace before finishing second for Jacks or Better Farm and trainer Ralph Nicks..
National Leader Gaffalione Rides Four Winners
Jockey Tyler Gaffalione rode four winners, including Keystoneforvictory in the featured 10th race, at Gulfstream Park Monday to extend his nation-leading 2017 win total.
After guiding Mike Maker-trained Keystoneforvictory ($3.40) to a 2 ¼-length victory in the $50,000 Home of the Brave, a 1 ½-mile turf starter handicap, Gaffalione held a 124-119 edge over New York-based Irad Ortiz Jr. in the national standings.
“I’m very fortunate right now. My agent does a great job. He’s the best,” said 22-year-old native of Davie, FL, who is represented by Matt Muzikar.
Gaffalione also scored aboard two Todd Pletcher-trained runners, Songeur ($9.40) in the seventh race and Stainless ($4) in the eighth after riding Il Nonno ($12.20) to victory in the fourth for trainer Antonio Sano.
The 2015 Eclipse Award-winning apprentice, who rode in his first Kentucky Derby this year aboard Pletcher-trained Patch, is scheduled to venture out of town for stakes engagements during the summer.
Edgard Zayas, Gulfstream’s second leading rider behind Gaffalione for the Spring Meet, notched three victories aboard Vedelago ($10.60) in the first, That’s a Myth ($7) in the fifth and It’s a Given ($5.60) in the 11th.
