ARLINGTON-WASHINGTON FUTURITY, LASSIE DRAW COMPETITIVE FIELDS

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (September 7, 2017) – The 83rd running of Saturday’s $75,000 Arlington-Washington Futurity drew a field of ten juvenile colts and geldings to contest seven furlongs on the main track at Arlington International Racecourse, headed by Yeamans Racing Stables’ 13-length debut winner Soul of Discretion. Trained by Dan McFarlane, the colt by Discreetly Mine drew off impressively to win at Canterbury Park last month when going five furlongs on an off track. Leslie Mawing will pilot the homebred from gate five for his second start.

Chris Block will saddle Lothenbach Stables’ homebred Captivating Moon for his Polytrack debut. A half-brother to multiple graded-stakes winners, this son of Malibu Moon broke his maiden by two lengths when going a mile on the turf at Arlington on July 30. Breaking from post four, the colt will receive the services of Arlington’s leading rider Jose Valdivia, Jr.

Ray Struder and Kellyn Gorder’s East Rand will also be making a switch from turf to Polytrack after the Kellyn Gorder trainee won by six lengths over a mile on the turf at Belterra Park on Aug. 18. Julio Felix rides the son of Denman (AUS) from gate six.

Thomas Amoss sends out Midwest Thoroughbreds’ homebred Kate’s Golden Dude from post two under Carlos Marquez, Jr. Out of a half-sister to multiple graded-stakes winner Vicar’s In Trouble, this son of Touch Gold won his debut at Indiana Grand by 5¾ lengths on Aug. 11 when going six furlongs.

Sagamore Farm and Stanley M. Hough’s Barry Lee was a 6½-length winner on debut for trainer Horacio DePaz before running off the board in the Grade II Saratoga Special last month. The son of Violence will break from post seven with Horacio Karamanos in the irons.

Completing the entries are Our Thomas (Anthony Nunez, post one), P R Radio Star (Pedro Cotto, Jr., post three), Take Charge Dude (Santo Sanjur, post eight), Ghaaleb’s Winner (Chris Emigh, post nine), and The X (Mitchell Murrill, post ten).

One race later, 14 juvenile fillies will line up for the 83rd edition of the $75,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie going seven furlongs on the main track. Horacio DePaz will send out Sagamore Farm’s homebred Southampton Way. The daughter of Into Mischief broke her maiden at Saratoga earlier in the summer before returning last month with a second-place finish in the Grade II Adirondack Stakes. Horacio Karamanos will ride from post six.

Bernard G. Shaeffer’s Red Dread will be chasing her third win on a synthetic surface. Trained by William Connelly, the daughter of Five Star Day was a debut winner at Presque Isle Downs at 4½ furlongs before finishing fourth in the Debutante Stakes at Churchill Downs. She returned to win an allowance optional-claiming event by four lengths last month over the Tapeta at Presque Isle. Breaking from gate ten, the filly will have Jose Valdivia, Jr. in the irons.

V-Leaf Stables, Richard Ravin and Larry Rivelli’s Richie’slilwildcat, a half-sister to multiple juvenile-stakes winners, broke her maiden at second asking at Arlington by 3¾ lengths in July. Bred by Ravin and Rivelli, the daughter of Wildcat Heir will break from gate four under Santo Sanjur.

Eoin Harty will saddle Casner Racing’s Ardor following her maiden win at Woodbine last month. The filly by Prospective stalked the pace before winning the photo by a nose going five furlongs on the Tapeta. Pedro Cotto, Jr. will ride from post two.

Presage (Carlos Marquez, Jr., post one), Lemon Drop Twist (Anthony Nunez, post three), Espressa (Nicholas Meza, post five), Fabriana (Mitchell Murrill, post seven), Caramel Cream (Edgar Perez, post eight), Saucy At Midnight (Julio Felix, post nine), Romantic Attack (Jesse Lantz, post 11), Her Wild Lifestyle (Chris Emigh, post 12), Bet She Wins (Jose Lopez, post 13), and Cowgirl Callie (Olaf Hernandez, post 14) complete the field.
