DARING DUCHESS HEADS FIELD OF 10
FOR SUNDAY’S ROOD & RIDDLE DOWAGER

Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s multiple graded stakes-placed Daring Duchess heads a field of 10 entered Thursday for Sunday’s 27th running of the $125,000 Rood & Riddle Dowager (G3) for fillies and mares going 1½ miles on the grass.
The Rood & Riddle Dowager will go as the eighth race on Sunday’s nine-race program with a 4:57 p.m ET post time. First post time Sunday is 1:05 p.m.
Trained by Mike Maker, Daring Duchess won the Flaming Page at Woodbine in August in her most recent start at the Rood & Riddle Dowager distance. Seventh in this race last year, Daring Duchess will be ridden Sunday by Jose Ortiz and break from post position five.
Maker has two other entrants in the race: Rahway and Shezaprado who are both owned by Out Of This World Racing. Corey Lanerie will ride Rahway from post position nine, and Gabriel Saez has the call on Shezaprado from post position four.
The field for the Rood & Riddle Dowager, with riders and weights from the inside, is: Viva Vegas (Tyler Gaffalione, 121 pounds), English Affair (Brian Hernandez Jr., 121), Savannah Belle (Ricardo Santana Jr., 121), Shezaprado (Saez, 121), Daring Duchess (Ortiz, 121), Amboseli (Mike Smith, 121), Beach Flower (Chris Landeros, 121), Res Ipsa (Julien Leparoux, 121), Rahway (Lanerie, 118) and Vexatious (Florent Geroux, 121).

MOONSHINE MEMORIES TO MAKE KEENELAND DEBUT
IN SATURDAY’S LEXUS RAVEN RUN

Michael Tabor, Bridlewood Farm, Mrs. John Magnier and Derrick Smith’s two-time Grade 1 winner Moonshine Memories has made three trips east of the Mississippi River from her Southern California base, but she has made her first stop in Kentucky for Saturday’s 20th running of the $250,000 Lexus Raven Run (G2).
“This is the coldest weather she’s been in,” said Jerry Quinn, who is overseeing the 3-year-old filly’s preparation for trainer Simon Callaghan. “But she loves it. She travels well. She has the perfect temperament. You can’t find a fault in her.”
On a brisk Thursday morning, Moonshine Memories galloped on the main track, a day after a 2-mile jog, also on the main track.
Moonshine Memories won the Chandelier (G1) at Santa Anita and the Del Mar Debutante (G1) last year before finishing seventh as the favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).
After the Breeders’ Cup, she got a six-month break from racing, “just for some R and R,” Quinn said.
Fourth in the Acorn (G1) at Belmont in June, Moonshine Memories was a troubled third in the Prioress (G2) Sept. 2 at Saratoga in her most recent start.
“She got absolutely destroyed at the break by (winner) Dream Tree and was pinched back to last,” Quinn said of the race in which Moonshine Memories dropped nearly 10 lengths off the pace after the start. “She put in a big run and only got beat a head for second by one of the best fillies around (Mia Mischief).”
Callaghan has another 2-year-old filly following in the footsteps of Moonshine Memories in Bellafina. Owned by Kaleem Shah, Bellafina has won the same Grade 1s Moonshine Memories did in 2017 as well as the Sorrento (G2) at Del Mar.
“She’s a very good filly,” Quinn said of Bellafina, who figures to be one of the favorites for the $2 million Tito’s Handmade Vodka Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs on Nov. 2. Bellafina is scheduled to ship from California to Louisville Oct. 26.

GALLOPING OUT

Trainer Ben Colebrook said Thursday morning that KRA Stud Farm’s Mr. Crow would be pre-entered in the $2 million TwinSpires Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) to be run Nov. 3 at Churchill Downs.
“That was the plan since July to get him to the Breeders’ Cup Sprint,” said Colebrook, who took over the training of the 4-year-old son of Tapizar this year. “He will have one work here next week.”
Mr. Crow finished second to likely Breeders’ Cup Sprint favorite Imperial Hint in the Vosburgh (G1) Sept. 29 at Belmont Park in his most recent start. …
Lothenbach Stables’ Bell’s the One, now undefeated in two starts following Wednesday’s 3-length allowance victory, is headed to Fair Grounds to make her stakes debut, according to trainer Neil Pessin.
“There is nothing at Churchill Downs for her,” Pessin said of the 2-year-old daughter of Majesticperfection. “The ($100,000-added) Rags to Riches (going a mile on Oct. 28) is too quick. I am looking at the ($75,000) Letellier Memorial (on Dec. 22 going 6 furlongs).”
Bell’s the One has won both of her starts going 6 furlongs and triumphed by open lengths. …

Tomorrow is the day before the 14th-ranked University of Kentucky football team plays Vanderbilt, and Keeneland will become the center of Big Blue Nation for seeblue. Day at the Races.
UK students, alumni, faculty and staff with valid UK IDs will receive free general admission and access to reserved Grandstand seating. Fans will enjoy a number of special activities tailored to Big Blue Nation.
At 11:30 a.m., the Wildcat mascot, UK marching band, cheerleaders and dance team will lead a Catwalk from the Sales Pavilion to the South Gate entrance to the Paddock. The band will play in the Walking Ring as patrons arrive.
At noon, UK graduate Darian Sanders will sing the National Anthem.

From noon to 2 p.m., former UK football captain Courtney Love will sign hats and pictures in the Paddock with a suggested donation of $5 for other items. Proceeds will go to DanceBlue (The student-run organization benefits the Golden Matrix Fund, which supports the Kentucky Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology Clinic and research at the UK Markey Cancer Center). Information tables will be outside The Keeneland Shop.

Keeneland Library exhibit “From the Vault: Historic Tracks.” This exhibit features 26 select images from the Library’s archive that showcase tracks from the early 20th century. Pioneering Turf photographers John C. Hemment and Charles Christian Cook are featured, with additional representation from Joel Clyne Meadors and Robert Lee McClure, among others. The Library is open to the public Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.
The online exhibit “Photo Treasures from the Keeneland Library” presents nearly 100 other historic images of U.S. racing facilities in its “Tracks Gallery.”

Heroes Day Presented by City Barbecue. Heroes Day honors members of the military (active duty and veterans), first responders – law enforcement, firefighters and EMTs – and their families with free general admission and access to reserved Grandstand seats. The Family Zone will offer free lunch and children’s activities for those families in the North Terrace from noon to 4 p.m.
Other special activities include a flag unfurling on the main track between races and recognition of local heroes in the Winner’s Circle throughout the afternoon.
